Tackle Cancer UK

"Cancer is a word, not a sentence."
~ John Diamond

Originating in Castleford, Tackle Cancer UK was founded in May 2009 by a small group of friends. Realising there were no fundraising events for men in the area, the team set out to produce an annual event to raise money for deserving Cancer charities. With no initial funding, TC launched their first football tournament in July 2009. Nearly three years on, TC have transformed from arranging their annual Tournament into a mini fundraising organisationm collaborating with the wider community to host a multitude of events throughout the calendar. The team's efforts have doubled each year and thus far have generated nearly £4,000 for Cancer Research UK.

As with the majority of the UK, all Tackle Cancer members have, in some respect, been hit by the heartache cancer brings. Within the past two years, four of the team have been affected with the loss of loved ones. Seeing first-hand how public funded organisations help sufferers, Tackle Cancer have decided to branch out and raise much needed money for such groups.

Although some of the original aims have changed, the important ones remain; to generate money, create awareness and help those who need it the most. With a fresh committee line up, a new logo and extra determination, Tackle Cancer has already arranged mini events and several larger events for the forthcoming year and is hoping to smash all previous fundraising totals.
